This one-day workshop focuses on building students’ personal and professional capacity to be service leaders in their communities, by first equipping them with the skills to develop strong self-leadership. With a focus on resilience, adaptability, boundary setting, and goal setting, students will be guided through the process of putting in place a framework of habits, mindsets, and practices that enable them to thrive. Students are also challenged to think differently about problems they observe in their communities, and to create innovative solutions to issues they see around them, serving others in the process of stepping up as future-focussed leaders.

This program has the following objectives:

  • Explore the different aspects self-leadership allowing students to recognise that the first step to leadership is developing themselves
  • Empower students to recognise the critical role that service leadership plays in your school, community and our world
  • Develop a greater understanding of building and maintaining boundaries with their personal and professional relationships
  • Equip students with the skills to set and achieve goals using a variety of techniques and real life examples
  • Build resilience to allow students to overcome adversity and fear feeling more empowered to take action
  • Encourage students to become more flexible and adaptable in a ever changing world and be prepared for future challenges
  • Challenge students to think differently to solve problems on a micro- and macro- scale in their personal and professional lives

All workshops have the following key YLAA outcomes:

  • Students participate in an experiential, learner-centred workshop
  • Small and large group debriefs facilitate building group consensus surrounding which direction students would like the workshop to lead into
  • A welcoming space of emotional safety and understanding is created, facilitating an environment where students feel comfortable sharing with the group
  • Programs are delivered in with a sustainable approach in mind considering both impact and environment

Additional Note: This program was designed and developed following consultation and recommendations provided by YLAA's Youth Advisory Board - As our organisation continues to evolve, we want to make sure that we continue to represent and empower the voices of youth in their own affairs, that’s why we have created our first Youth Advisory Board - not only to ensure that our students’ interests are at the core of every aspect of our organisation, but also to give the young people we serve the opportunity to develop themselves personally, whilst contributing to our mission of ensuring a sustainable future for all youth.
