This workshop builds students’ awareness of their power to be positive role models and change agents in their community, and equips them with the confidence, communication skills, and self-awareness to take charge of their mindset and have a positive influence on those around them. Students will be supported to build strong habits, formulate a healthy relationship with technology, strengthen their relationships with their community, and set clear boundaries that allow them to step into their best selves. By strengthening students’ sense of self-leadership, we aim to equip them with the tools to become better leaders in their communities and schools.

This program has the following objectives:

  • Allows students to become more aware of the critical role in their homes, schools and communities as an influential leader
  • Explore how to build healthy habits with technology and social media
  • Provides students with a sense of self-confidence to be able to cope with adversity
  • Encourages students to take ownership of their actions and the good and bad consequences which follow
  • Equip students with the skills to build healthy strong relationships with firstly themselves and then their community
  • Motivates student to develop health and wellbeing strategies to support a successful lifestyle
  • Equips students with an understanding of the impact verbal and non-verbal communication has
  • Educates students on the importance of boundaries personally and professionally as they move through adulthood

All workshops have the following key YLAA outcomes:

  • Students participate in an experiential, learner-centred workshop
  • Small and large group debriefs facilitate building group consensus surrounding which direction students would like the workshop to lead into
  • A welcoming space of emotional safety and understanding is created, facilitating an environment where students feel comfortable sharing with the group
  • Programs are delivered in with a sustainable approach in mind considering both impact and environment

Additional Note: This program was designed and developed following consultation and recommendations provided by YLAA's Youth Advisory Board - As our organisation continues to evolve, we want to make sure that we continue to represent and empower the voices of youth in their own affairs, that’s why we have created our first Youth Advisory Board - not only to ensure that our students’ interests are at the core of every aspect of our organisation, but also to give the young people we serve the opportunity to develop themselves personally, whilst contributing to our mission of ensuring a sustainable future for all youth.
